Kuyana Amazon Lodge — A Boutique Lodge on the Hollín River

Nature, without giving up comfort.

Where the Forest Comes First

The name Kuyana comes from kuya, the Quechua word for the pilche — a hand-carved vessel Amazonian families use to share a drink with whoever walks through the door. That’s what we do here. Thirteen rooms and cabins, a river you can hear from the lobby, and a forest we’re still learning to care for properly. Kuyana is a boutique Amazon lodge in Ecuador, three and a half hours from Quito, built for travelers who want the real forest — not a postcard of it.

Rooms Built to Belong to the Forest

We kept Kuyana small on purpose: 13 rooms and cabins, room for 22 guests at most. Not because small is more exclusive, but because it’s the only way to actually know who’s staying with us. Every room opens onto the forest through private terraces and natural materials — wood, linen, stone — chosen to disappear into the landscape instead of competing with it. You’ll fall asleep to the Hollín River instead of a fan, and wake up to birdsong instead of an alarm.

A Table Set by the Forest and Its Communities

Over 70% of what reaches your plate at Kuyana comes from nearby Quechua families and our own gardens: fruit, vegetables, honey from stingless bees that pollinate the young forest we’re growing back. Our kitchen doesn’t chase trends — it follows the season and the river. Sharing a meal here isn’t a service, it’s the oldest form of hospitality this land knows, and the one Kuyana was named after.

Remember

What You’ll Take Home Isn’t a Photo

Riverside yoga at sunrise. A walk with no destination. The particular quiet of a forest that isn’t performing for anyone. We won’t promise you’ll see every animal in the Amazon — nature doesn’t work on request, and we’d rather tell you the truth than sell you a guarantee. What we can promise is time: enough of it, finally, to notice how you feel when nothing is asking for your attention. That’s usually what people remember.

Our Promise

No One Is Just a Room Number

At Kuyana, we learn your name, we adapt what we can, and we say goodbye already hoping to welcome you back. Kuyana was never a real estate project — it’s a piece of forest we were lucky enough to be accepted by, and a home we’re still learning to share the right way
